Tack Barn | Holiday Cottage
The Tack Barn is our beautiful and sustainable holiday cottage, ideally located for Lewes, Glyndebourne, Charleston Farmhouse and the South Downs. It is tucked in its own woodland overlooking the pond and is kitted out with local products and art, making this a stylish and creative hideaway.
"One of the best places I’ve ever stayed at - I really didn’t want to leave. From the gorgeous cosy converted barn, to an awesome fireplace, to unexpected gloriously sunny days, to a surprise tree house, to so many farm animals all around, I had the best time" MN, Singapore |
Living Area | An exceptionally bright and lofty room with french windows opening straight onto the deck and the outdoor dining space. There are beautiful views over the pond and through the trees onto fields. In chilly weather you can light the wood burning stove and settle down on the sofa - we provide the basket of logs.
Bathroom | A double ended bath with shower over, sink and WC. We provide the organic cotton towels and candles for you. There are some wonderful artists and makers working in and around Lewes, some even work in the studios here in the Long Barn, so it seemed like a good idea to use some of our favourite products and art throughout the barn.
There are a few extras that we can help you out with if you'd like us to, just let us know in advance if you will want any of the following;
Breakfast Hampers | If you'd like us to do the shopping for you we can put together a tempting breakfast hamper, providing everything you'll need for a slap-up cooked breakfast from our favourite local food suppliers. Meal Hampers | Also if you'd simply like a meal to be put in your fridge ready to cook, our local butcher makes beautiful pies and we can add some seasonal veg from the garden for you. Our neighbour makes ice cream in their dairy, which we'll pop in your freezer for pudding too. |
Kitchen | To welcome you and to help you settle in we will leave a basket of delicious home-grown and locally sourced essentials in the kitchen on your arrival. We have fitted out the kitchen with everything a food-lover will need in the hope of encouraging you to make the most of our local food and drink.
Outside | The wrap-around deck leads out to the woodland garden and pond. There is a sheltered outdoor dining space for balmy days and a fire pit for more chilly ones. We would be delighted if you want to wander around the garden during your stay, or enjoy a sun-downer on the jetty. At night listen out for the owls hooting in the trees.
Glyndebourne | If you are planning a visit to the opera while staying here we are only three miles, or ten minutes, from the world famous opera house. We can also provide you with everything you might need (or have perhaps forgotten to pack); a picnic kit, festival programme, a bow tie and a taxi number.
We would also love to recommend our good friends Lou and Katie who can put together a picnic for you to pair with one of our many award-winning regional English Sparking Wines. |
Bedroom | A king-sized bed with line-dried, crisp Egyptian cotton sheets and plump cushions, from which you can look out at the view or listen to the owls hooting at night. The french windows open directly onto the deck and there is plenty of hanging space and drawers. There is also room for a cot which we can provide on request.
Eco-Credentials | The Tack Barn was converted from a redundant stable block and is run with sustainability at it's core, while not compromising on comfort. Including; using line-dried linen, organic cotton towels, a wood burning stove and our home-grown logs, solar heated water, triple-glazed windows, photo-voltaic electricity, low energy lighting and reed bed drainage.
"This place is a hidden gem. Perfectly located, this rural retreat provides everything and more! Needless to say, we'll be back soon." C & B, Surrey
